Derek Fitzgerald

Derek is a pharmacist qualifying in the early eighties and has worked in community and hospital pharmacy, the medicines manufacturing industry and has now been with Medsafe for over thirty years.  Initially employed as a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) auditor of medicines manufacturers, an interest in the quality of therapeutic products and regulation led to wider experience in the compliance area with Derek managing this component of Medsafe for the past twenty years. There is never a dull day in compliance with all manner of quality issues relating to medicines and medical devices arising regularly, questions over regulatory interpretation to resolve  and with the more formal investigation and prosecution processes.  It is certainly a challenging, but interesting and rewarding area for the Compliance team.
